How do you become popular on DeviantArt?

Any tips? I get lonely sometimes, so I'd really like to be popular on DeviantArt so I feel loved, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get popular on there.

People want the usual stuff. For example, Sonic and Sally kissing etc.
Thats why I'm not popular, too. I don't go with the masses. And I don't want to do it.

I've tried doing that sort of thing, drawing more Sonic stuff, even porn and fetishes, and not to boast, I know I'm not the greatest artist ever, but I've seen some HORRIBLE stuff on there that deals with that stuff and it's super popular. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Many people out there are especially popular because their pictures have a joke inside or are just outstanding good. But even some who have unique and great style aren't popular. But in the first place it's a question of what you draw. If you mainly draw Robotnik as I do, you are interesting just for a little group. If it's Sonic himself then you will attract all people, since he is the most interesting character.

But you also have to ask yourself: Do you want to go with the masses? Do you want to draw stuff just to get "more popular", or do you want to draw what you want, even if it means not to get popular, as I do?

i don't know exactly but i do know this...having Characters meet that people like in a story esc faction is cool as long as it makes sense(im just saying cross-overs can be cool) but drawing Characters in ways that should of been done but weren't is indeed cool...im the kind of guy who likes the middle ground but at a slight angle, like example if they made a movie about a Skinny guy that could be impossible things just by the human spirit based on real life if its done well enough i would watch it...if he's the kind of person we all see in ourselves, but he isn't just incredible he teaches others too

I don't think there is one particular thing or set of things you can do. I think that the right thing to do depends on your personality and therefore how you interact with others. I looked online for information about how to get popular so that I could sell my ref sheets but nobody seemed to have effective suggestions to make.

I bought a month-long advert on FurAffinity and got lots of positive comments and interest, and about 100 Watches. I haven't tried an ad on DA but maybe it's worth a try?

Despite my much larger following now on FA I don't get many comments on my submissions, and it might be worth mentioning to you that despite my cheapest sheets being really cheap, most people still say they can't afford it.

I guess you can't go wrong if you use as many resources that DA offers as possible - Groups, tags, the forum, critiquing, niches, major crowd-pleasers, journals... They may or may not be enough to get you the popularity you need, but they'll be a step in the right direction.

I get the impression that one thing it almost always takes is time. I don't think I've ever found anyone really popular who achieved their fame overnight. Keep at it, use resources and stay in love with making art!
