According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be produced by Mandeville Films/TV, which is responsible for The Muppets and the upcoming Muppets Most Wanted.
The film will reportedly be inspired by the 1989 animated incarnation of the characters, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. The show took the decades-old characters and launched them into a detective agency that specialized in clients from the animal kingdom. The show ran for three years on The Disney Channel, along with the popular Duck Tales and its spin-off Darkwing Duck. Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers was recently revived as a comic book series from BOOM Studios.
Operating as an origin story, Chip 'n Dale has yet to be given a release date. You can bet the filmmakers aren't happy that the "Chipwrecked" pun is already a thing.
