    Coming Out.

I have to get my views on this subject off my chest. I've been trying so hard to be politically correct about this topic, and I just can't do it anymore. Listen folks, gender and sex are the same thing. Just because some people in the 1970s decided otherwise doesn't change biology. Your gender is identified by your genitalia, as it is for any other animal. Humans aren't special. If you identify as genderqueer, transgender, two-spirit, genderfluid, non-binary, or whatever this week's new buzzword is, you're wrong. Are there people with physical ambiguities in birth? Yes, but let’s be honest. You're not one them are you? You were born with a womb and a vagina, or a penis and testicles and everything that goes along with it. How you "feel inside," whatever that means, doesn't change your gender any more than how you “feel inside” in relation to your skin color or species. Would you rather be the opposite gender? Great, but that doesn’t mean you are the oppose gender. If you’d rather be a dragon or a dinosaur, you’re not those either.

I know what the reaction to this is going to be. “How dare you have an opinion that contradicts mine? You must hate transgender people, you’re a bigot.” That’s not the case at all. In fact, many of the people in my life closest to me are very gung ho on this whole concept. Yes, I have close friends who are not “cisgendered” (which isn’t a word by the way.) I could potentially hurt or lose people I love because I am writing this right now. It’s very hard to do, and very scary. I’ve tried very hard to be respectful and accommodating of people who feel uncomfortable in their body or gender role. I don’t care if a male would like to wear dresses or a woman would like to be referred to as “he.” If it makes you happy, go ahead! Do it! But it’s getting to the point where it’s become so absurd, and the community has gotten so prissy and so whiny and so uptight, someone finally has to say the emperor has no clothes.

Take the reactions to suicides in the community. Whenever some “non-cisgendered” kid is mistreated and is driven to death, everyone jumps on this “well, at least now people will use the proper pronouns” bandwagon. Really? That’s what a human being died for? So you can feel slightly more comfortable because maybe some people will feel guilty? Could there be anything more frivolous than what pronouns a person calls you by? A real, living human being suffered and died, and you’re rubbing your hands together going “oh boy, now we have a martyr.” Do you have any idea how precious every single human life is? Do you have any idea how much pain those people were put through? And for what, just because they liked wearing dresses or didn’t like makeup? And you DARE get upset over pronouns? If you have preferred pronouns, that’s fine. But why get so upset if someone doesn’t use them for you or for others? Do you really have the right to when there are people out there who are genuinely suffering?
Ask not what Ken Penders can do for you, but what you can do for Ken Penders.
