I am rather old. I was 14 and a Freshmen in high school back when Sonic Satam premiered on ABC. I loved it from the get go. I prefer the first season, but did also enjoy the second season, save for the aesthetic changes to Antoine and Rotor, and the diminished role of the latter and Bunnie.

Like many fans, I created my own expansion tot he Satam world and wrote fan fiction, although I largely kept it to myself since I didn't go online until 1997. I joined the now defunct Beseen Sonic Chat. I used this handle, based on a character I created in 1994.

LIly was Tails' older sister. Rather unoriginal LOL since she was a double-tailed fox as well. I worked out a story where Tails' parents were archaeologists in what would be the Mobius equivalent of Ancient Egypt. Lily was lost in a plane crash, but taken in by the sorcerer and Pharaoh Men-nefer-het (a long-eared desert hedgehog). Men-nefer-het had been cursed to sleep by the dark wizard, Nekht, for 5,000 years until the chaos emeralds reemerged. After the curse is lifted, he and his sphinx guardians most battle Nekht and the manticores (corrupted sphinxes with deadly poisoned barbs in their tails and paralyzing gazes). I had this idea where Nekht and Robotnik joined forces to try to steal the chaos emeralds and Knuckles' Master Emerald. Lily was a member of Men-nefer-het's freedom fighters (no memory of Tails or Mobotropolis), recruiting Sonic to help their cause (and discover his super sonic form as a result to being a distant descendant of the hedgehog king).

It was an interesting story, but I haven't revived it since the 90s. I kept the character Lily and adapted her into a normal fox.

Awesome to meet another fan from back in the day; I was about 12 or 13 when it came on ABC. Even though for many years I fell away from the fandom for a while, SatAM has been a big influence on my writing and art. Since a few years ago I got back into the show and started watching it and chatting with fans as well as doing my own fan works. Also, I'm another one that's a fan of the first season too, so your not alone.

Your fan fiction idea actually sounds like it could have worked in a later SatAM season had it eventually introduced Knuckles. That's rare! Good on you, and welcome to the forum.

I was 17 years old when I started posting on FUS (Fans United for Sonic SatAM), 18 years of age when Saturday Morning Sonic came online. I am now 28, and still one of the younger users.

Thing is, only one generation really knows about Sonic SatAM. It premiered in 1993 on ABC and lasted through a second season, then was cancelled in 1995. USA Network picked it up in 1997 and cut out two minutes of each episode to make room for commercials. Didn't last long and was pulled off the air. Those who stuck to this show during it's original run enjoyed it, and that was when the fandom was at it's best.

The fandom for this cartoon show did fairly well in the mid to late 2000s. FUS and Saturday Morning Sonic had a steady flow of five to twenty different forum users on a daily basis. But that seems to have died off too, and this is all that's left.

I know some of you out there who probably visit this website once a month or so are likely pushing 40, and that to me feels scary. People born from around 1992 to 2000 or so aren't really going to remember Sonic SatAm, they were much too young. That leaves us, the generation that grew up in the 1980s and early to late 1990s.

In all honesty the real reason I know Sonic SatAm at all is the old Sonic Archie comics. I have dozens of comics spanning from 1995 to late 1999. Sally, Bunnie, Rotor and Antoine all had a spotlight at some point in the comics history. The fact that Archie has ditched the Sonic SatAm concept completely breaks my heart. But I'm not surprised. A new generation enjoys the current comics and cartoon shows, I being 28 years old soon to be 29 isn't a part of the target audience anymore.

The Archie universe (also my first exposure to Sonic, although I prefer SatAM to Archie,) is what's been completely abandoned. However, I do think that it's just a matter of time before Archie gets rid of even the few trace elements of SatAM that survive, or until the comic's cancelled entirely, especially given the second lawsuit the company is now facing.

I think the best thing any of us can do is just make our own art. Not fan fiction, but original stuff, that takes the elements we loved most about SatAM, and give new generations a similar experience. Living in the past isn't healthy. It's hard, but I think it's time we need to start letting go.

I was very young when SatAm first aired on ABC, I actually happened to watch Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. I did manage to catch a couple episodes of SatAM when Ben Hurst was still writing for the show, but what those episodes were are lost to time.

That is truly a shame. I felt a little sad when I recently learned that Ben Hurst passed away, but to hear of Archie Comics going through a lawsuit makes me even more upset. They had some good issues of Sonic the Hedgehog, while being targeted to kids I felt the Endgame (issues 47 to 50) was done well. Sally was easily the most respected and cherished character (apart from Sonic and Tails) in both the TV show and the comics, to feel she was gone moved me a bit.

I've pretty much moved on from Sonic fandom and basically just Sonic in general. I just wanted to check to see if these forums were still up and running after an entire decade.

Well, I stopped paying attention to the comics, but last time I checked, Sally's not gone, in the sense, there is still a character in named Sally who's a squirrel, princess, and freedom fighter. But given that her entire history is wiped out and everything that went along with it, I'd question if it's really Sally. It's the same reason I stopped following Marvel and DC books, the endless reboots render the characters meaningless because nothing they do has consequences, they just constantly reset to gel with the current tastes.

I'd love to hear the full story of the situation with FUS at the time. I wasn't a part of the SatAM community at the time it was active. I think I joined here in 2009 or so as Ash Loomis? Not sure.
