SatAM in french !

In France, there was a channel named "La Cinquième" that had various cartoons and animes. The channel stopped a few years a go but someone made a video with some parts of those different cartoons the channel aired...

It reminds me that the first episode of SatAM aired on September 25th, 1995 in France.

It's cool to see the double dragon cartoon got a french dub as well. I wonder what that was like...

Great find! I couldn't understand 98% of what the characters were saying, but the episodes were still enjoyable to watch. The voice actors were well chosen as well IMO.

The theme song threw me for a curve, because I'm so used to the "dark theme". However, it did grow on me quite quickly! I also agree that it's odd seeing Antoine speak proper french...just like everyone else, hehe.

Was SatAM and AoSTH as popular in France as they are here?

Yes, it was popular, most people remember Sonic's "j'ai failli attendre" ("I'm waiting") that was even used in Sonic X (! ). We're just waiting for a dvd boxset. The episodes are very hard to find, there were only two AoStH VHS back then.

Not really SatAM, but Declic Images updated the Sonic page on their website and on the 4rth AoStH dvd boxset, I've noticed...Sally, with her look from the pilot but with the final colors:

Truly bizarre. It's like the reverse of her "Christmas Blast" appearance, which was her final design with her pilot color scheme. Likewise, I can only assume it's the presence of that episode in the set that justifies putting her on the box in the first place which, truth be told, makes me grin a little. :3

Apparently, the episode isn't there. The first box contains 17 episodes and the others 16. 17 + (3x16) = 65, and the special is the 66th and was released separatedly. I'd like to find these boxsets, it's hard to find them.

That's an adorable drawing of Bunnie, but it's really odd to see her as the only character on the cover of a DVD for a show she never even appeared in. At least with the other one Sally had a brief cameo in Christmas Blast. Does that DVD also include a Bunnie-heavy episode of SatAM, or does someone in production art have a soft spot for her?

No SatAM episode in that dvd, it contains the final four (minus the Xmas special) episodes of AoStH.

Does Antoine's full French name means some pun? Renardière makes me think on Foxes, well "Renard" in French means "Fox" and considering Antoine's discrepancy on his species, he would be a sort of pun if he's supposed to be a Fox.

Yeah, it was dubbed in French, Spanish, Arabic, German?, and... Italian? There may have been more too.

It was dubbed in German, too. But in German they merged AoStH with SatAM (first all AoStH episodes and directly after that SatAM). That whole was named "Sonic der irre Igel" - Sonic the insane hedgehog (positiv insane I think).
I don't know why they did that but it both series don't fit together, do they?

I can tell you, there only exist the english complete DVDs of SatAM and I'm happy about it.
As you can see in the following Youtube video the german syncronization voices are not very good. Robotnik doesn't sound very evil, Snively not like a toad and Sonic too old for a 15 year old boy.


I'm from Germany but I really prefer the english series. I don't understand everything (mostly because the jargon of that time Sonic uses) but I enjoyed it more than this german syncronisation. And it's the only german upload so I had no choice
So I'm fully satisfied with my UK complete edition (they just messed the order of some episodes off).

"Renardière" can be translated as "fox den". "Gontran" is just a name that sounds "snob" (Gladstone Gander, from Donald Duck comics, is named Gontran Bonheur in french).
I think, for the french version, they passed him for a fox because coyotes are not really common in France Like in Sonic X, where Knuckles is mostly referred as a porcupine (and sometimes a hedgehog...) because little kids rarely know what an echidna is. (I know it's not a good reason. As a kid, when Knuckles was announced in Sonic 3, I searched in a dictionnary to know about echidnas.)

That's kind of funny because I don't think many kids at all knew what an echidna was before Knuckles (I guess unless you were in Australia...). I know of other cartoons that have done this kind of thing too and I don't understand it. Introducing kids to something new in a cartoon?! What a terrible idea!

As for the German dub of SatAM, I've actually since heard it and actually thought it was alright, but I suppose it's hard to pick up on problems if you don't speak the language.
