Mature rated SATAM cartoon anybody?

Im new here, Just signed in a few days ago, finally have a place to put my ideas. Here's one i am sure will get you discussing. Since SEGA did like the SATAM concept so much. Would it have been something if they told Ben Hurst they wanted a totally mature rated cartoon. The reason I say this is that I have always though of SATAM as a mature rated cartoon because of the situations the characters were thrust into. I know that it might of taken a few more years before something like that could of taken off because all of the characters would of needed time to mature. But in theory it could of worked. I always had the idea my head of an hour long program on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights at either 9 or 10 pm on whatever station seemed the most profitable at the time. What are your thoughts on the matter? One more thing, where can I find a picture of Cluck, it would fit my profile nicely. Hope Im doing this right!! Rooster

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "mature rated." If you mean something directed more at adults but still suitable for kids, then I think that could be pretty cool. But I wouldn't want to see a version of SatAM that was literally rated mature.

A SatAM "flash forward" would be interesting. As I think about why I ended up loving SatAM as a kid, though, it's not solely because of the "mature" situations the characters faced. It had a nice balance of being "cute" but adventurous and somewhat serious (with a dash of humor inbetween).

There were other shows that kids liked that never TRULY appealed to me like Batman and ever Superman. Gargoyles would probably fall into that category as well. They were a bit too serious and mature for me at that age, so while I'm sure they were good, they never appealed to me as much. On the flip side, the more zany shows like Animaniacs (which, as an adult, I actually like a lot - guess my sense of humor developed a bit) and even AoSTH didn't thrill me as much as SatAM.

I dunno if I'd truly like a "mature" SatAM though. Archie does that somewhat and I'm not quite sure how much I like it at times. I guess the big question is...how would you describe a "mature" SatAM? You could probably create a great storyline without having to rate the series "M", which, quite frankly, I'd prefer the most. Otherwise you risk making SatAM take itself way too seriously, and let's face it, Sonic simply isn't a serious person 95% of the time!

Well I'd never say never... Ben Hurst was without a doubt one of the driving forces behind keeping the spirit of the cartoon alive, but he was by no means a singular linchpin of any possible revival. He also wasn't the show's only writer. Come to think of it, I sometimes feel the biggest chance of seeing a new series eventuate would ride on the shoulders of whatever success Archie comics enjoys with their interpretation, as it's the best example of tangible interest and potential consumer demand for a resurrection of the show.

SatAM was mature enough for me anyway thematically, though I suppose it would be nice to be able to explore the series' themes more openly without having to worry about keeping things kid-friendly. Mature content always works best as a form of expression -- I don't think rooster implies that a good idea would be to take SatAM and fill it with guts and sex.

With that mature point of view in mind, episodes like "Sonic past cool" or the Antoine's double features would had no place.

I believe Sonic-Sally relation would had been more developed and perphars the seed of the Bunnie-Antoine relation gotten to get developed too...

Rooster here.Should of clarified more why I would of liked to see a "mature rated SAT-AM" hope this is good enough. Need more clarity just ask. The angle of SATAM and AoSTH from the very beginning, and this is my own personal opinion, was that AoSTH was the Y-7 version and SAT-AM was the TV-14 version. I know that it could not or never was going to be anything more than a kid to teen oriented cartoon. I guess that my interpenetration of the series, the amazing thing was I was only 7 when it aired on ABC in 1993, was one of disgust because of the blatant "love relationship" Sonic and Sally were in. Now somebody tell me what parent wants to see the two main characters of this new cartoon series "kissing" each other. Would you want your kids to see that and then have to explain that to them, when they are only 7 or younger. Granted they were older teens then and they had there lives ruined at 5 so who could blame them. I guess I just saw through the smoke-screen that hid the true nature of the series, my interpretation of course. Guess I was just smart for my age. If the series kept on the darker themed route there is only so much Y-7 Stuff you can do with a dark themed series before you have to up the anti to TV-14, SEGA's approval of course. If it warranted it, and the older public wanted it , because they saw potential in the little blue guy and the freedom fighters then create a second SATAM series with adults in mind, if SEGA would want to take it that far of course. I believe in not learning about the birds and the bees until 21 because, lets face it, teens are just plain stupid when it comes to "love relationships" in this day and age not all, but most. I guess that I saw an adult theme that promoted learning about this concept and it irked me, and I was 7 remember, before a kid one that's all. Hope this clears it up. Any questions post here. If by mature you mean "more adult" then what's the point. A cartoon doesn't have to be insipid, but a show about fuzzy animals isn't going to become some breakout hit just because it's mature or features boobs...or whatever.

I just wish the comic was are own mature version of not only Sonic SATAM, but Sonic in general.

Kind of likehow DC has the main universe for the older crowd and the dcu and others for the general audience. And the comic could include game idea, but make them into something more darker and more maturely written.

I never really understood why some people say Sonic shouldn't explore more mature and darker ground or that it's in it's nature as a cartoon animal genre to be light, when other anthro comics do the same.

For Christ sakes, one of the reason i was attracted to Sonic as a youth was because he was more Darker and edgier then then Mario's light whimsical world

Well in that case, if anyone comes across a fan-fic that has Tails turning to Bunny for "special talk" only to learn of Bunny's "other life" and get caught up in disturbing visions and a fetish she has for torture which the others don't believe until they enter Tails' home and find his skin & fur lying among huge puddles of blood and see him barely alive and twitching while singing "What a Wonderful World" and sitting against a wall onto which he has written, "Isn't it beautiful?" with his blood, causing Sonic to go paranoid and distrust the others to the point of viciously forcing them into unwanted desires, then please send me a link.
