    Persona non Grata, fan novel

Postby fishtheimpaler on May 6th, 2012, 1:35 pm

Haven't been around here in a looooooong time, but I figured I ought to at least drop this in. Serial publication is still ongoing, but after ten years fan novel Persona non Grata is complete. https://rapidshare.com/files/1795672844 ... _Grata.pdf Sonic and the freedom fighters are terrorists, fighting a resistance against the military junta of Julian Robotnik in an alternate Mobius that resembles 21st century earth a little more closely. The fight reshapes the nation, the continent, the world, five rebel mobians, and mobian life itself. It's the War and Peace of Sonic fan fiction--at least in length, if not in quality. :P

Some serious thanks are in due for people who helped me with the novel. Kain Blackwood @ FUS and Wingless Rain @ ff.net both acted as editors, providing invaluable suggestions and serious encouragement. Similar thanks is owed to the Sonic "darkfic" writers that hung out @ ff.net in the 00s, including Stoobing/Sean Catlett, Stephen Zacharus, Wingless Rain and cornwallace. In particular, major portions of the novel ripped off styles and ideas from Sean Catlett's Sonic: Sketchy and Catlett and Zacharus' collaboration Reflections. Both of those stories are well worth reading if you can track them down.

Thanks, and hope you enjoy! File is downloadable at the link listed in PDF, though you can still find it listed in my ff.net account if you like. https://rapidshare.com/files/1795672844 ... _Grata.pdf

Since it's Sonic, I'm going to move this to Fan Content.

I had no idea you were writing this novel for so long. I'll admit I only got up to the second book and kinda stopped reading fanfiction and books altogether lately, but certainly what I did read was very dark, very abrasive stuff - extremely intelligent and incredibly well written! I might have to give this another go now that it's all together. Congratulations!

    Thanks, Neon!

Yeah, I think it was about ten years, although my memory fails. Checking through the early chapters, it looks like some of the names for the military contractors were borrowed from the White Sox closing pitchers in 2004 (Kieth Foulke and Shingo "Mr. Zero" Takashi), so I was at least drafting back then. And I remember I had a false start before writing the version that I eventually finished, so call it a round ten years. :D
