Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Series RELEASED!

Postby PorpoiseMuffins on March 26th, 2007, 11:59 pm

Okay SatAM Sonic fans: this is it. Sonic the Hedgehog: The Complete Series is in stores now!

The day that many fans have waited 13 years for has finally arrived. The original SatAM cartoon series has been immortalized in thousands of DVD sets released all over the United States! For the first time ever, fans can watch all 26 episodes in full, commercial-free quality-- whenever they want. So grab your wallet, snag a set, plop down in a couch seat and relive a piece of your childhood. Soak in the world that SatAM created-- one of the most timeless representations of Sonic ever produced. The SatAM series is ultimately why this web site exists and why we're all a part of it-- and what event could be more significant for the fanbase than this? This moment is what Saturday Morning Sonic is all about. Thank-you Shout Factory!

A new chapter has opened in the history of SatAM and its fandom. In one sense, one of our largest objectives has been fulfilled. It may sound a bit over-dramatic, but one of the things that has always made SatAM so interesting and appealing is that it is a bit of an anomaly. The Sonic franchise has parted ways so significantly with it that its memory is a faint, almost dream-like one for some. With this release, SatAM no longer has that elusive aura to it; it's back. Does this mean we're done? Certainly not. The box set will likely bring even more fans-- new and old-- to the show and its online community. Let's give them all a warm welcome and just see where things go from here. Anything could happen; nothing could happen. Either way, we're all along for the ride-- or run ;)

    Way past.

Feel free to use this thread to share your thoughts/stories/photos/videos from the box set release-- Just keep your picture sizes under 600 pixels wide if you embed them, please :)

    Updates:

There is an interview with Brian Ward now up on Toon Zone!

I've added high resolution scans of the packaging to the Media section

The set reached as high as #140 in top DVD sales and #17 in animation sales on its first two days on Amazon.com!

In 1997, I remember driving to nearly every store within my area cause a rumor spread that the VHS collection of the show was released. After conversing with every cashier and sales associate, one muttered something that ill never forget. "It's not out yet, and it's surprising since its Sonic the Hedgehog. Perhaps one day it will, but right now its uncertain." 10 years later, those words haved echoed back to me and I couldn't be more content as I am right now knowing that I have obtain a piece of my lost childhood this afternoon. Years of petitions, and fan support of this masterpiece have been an on going crusade to some way release the show, and we fans can finally proclaim a victory. It really shows how dedication and devotion can really let your voices be heard. In relation, we had a wonderful and cooperative Shout! Factory employee that was with us every step of the way in developing a great DVD set that was entirely designed by the fans. Its really an ethereal experience to know that this collection is uncut, restored, and loaded with bonuses. I think we should send our graditute and kudoes to Brian Ward for his loyal efforts in delivering a DVD set that any Sonic would and will enjoy. Over a decade of patience has really paid off and I'm glad to be apart of a community thats been supportive of this great show after all these years :)

    I got it!

I wasn't really planning on doing this, but I thought it would be fun to document the experience on my digital camera and give everyone a little window into my life. So here we go

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRWXfkTE66E

Warning-- I go through all the packaging at the end of the video, so if you still don't want to see the inside of the cases, don't watch that part. I give a spoiler warning when I'm about to do it :) I also show the back of the box towards the middle. If you don't want to see that yet.. well, you might want to put off watching the video until later.

So what can I say? I'm kind of speechless. The set is really awesome. It's so surreal to see the fan art all over the set-- I'm sure that for those who actually drew it it the feeling must be even more incredible. The same goes for Alison (Sonqiue), who gets a thanks on the back of the box and in the credits of the interview with Ben.

The menus are excellent-- I don't know how they did it, but I love it! I watched the interviews with Jaleel and Ben, and both are even more than I would have hoped for (also, don't miss those easter eggs!). Seeing Jaleel talk about the show is something I didn't think I'd ever see, and he sounds really grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the cartoon, as well as for the devotion of the fans.

Ben's interview is even longer and more in-depth. He mentions the SAGE chats and his communication with the fanbase, and he even puts out a bit of a plea to Sega and DIC to recognize what they had hit on and give the series concept another shot. It's awesome seeing Ben's face and hearing him talk. He's very composed and clearly shows his genuine love for the series (what on Earth was Bozon talking about?). Every single Sonic fan should see these two interviews. I'm excited about what this set could potentially do for the entire Sonic franchise. Let's keep on hoping!

Update - The set is currently at around #206 in DVD sales on Amazon!

Mike, you've satiated my expectations of your video. It was entertaining, comical, and even detailed on revealing the artwork. A+
