Segaworld Sonic Puppets pictures

Postby Adamis on January 5th, 2011, 9:32 pm

Thanks to this person from SSBB:

SonikkuForever wrote:Okay, so lately I've become absolutely fascinated with SegaWorld Sydney, that old theme park that Sega had from 1997 to 2000. I started scouring the internet for any and all media and information pertaining to it. However, I noticed that there was one aspect of the park that was almost forgotten - the Sonic-themed live show. We had the soundtrack rip, but no matter how hard I searched, I couldn't find any pictures or video of it at all. In fact, the very few people that had actually seen it barely even remembered what it was like! I searched and I searched, until Google finally found the website of Phillip Einfeld's Puppetoons, the company that made the puppets and sets for the show. There were a few pictures of the Sonic, Tails, and Robotnik puppets there, but I wanted to know more. So, I sent Phillip Einfeld an email asking him about the show. Two days later, I got this in response:

Wow. That's a lot of never-before-seen info! Who would have guessed that there were two shows? Phillip was also kind enough to scan some old photos of the show and send them to me. Here's some of the best ones:

It's Sonic the puppet-hog! I think he's kinda cute...

http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz51 ... puppet.jpg

Say hello, Tails! I think he's the best puppet in the show.

http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz51 ... puppet.jpg

Wow, Robotnik-puppet is huge!

http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz51 ... puppet.jpg

Everybody loves Sally! Although, she kind of reminds me of Tails Doll...

http://i813.photobucket.com/albums/zz51 ... nteers.jpg

The show relied heavily on lucky audience participants like these. That poor kid with the guitar looks pretty confused.

And finally, my favorite picture of the lot, the Magic Mountains! These are animatronics that pop out of the mountains every now and then to do announcements. I LOL at
Tails' expression. And look at cute little peek-a-boo Sonic. He's just snooping as usual like some kind of Sega spy-robot.

That's all for now, folks! But there are song lyrics, concept art, and even more pictures in this zip file, which contains everything show-related that Einfeld sent me. A huge thank you to Philip Einfeld! Without his generosity, this show would have been forgotten.

For some time I wanted to see again the fellas... (Gone to Sega world WAAAY back as a prize after 8th grade) Was like Disneyworld for me...

Sally looks like the early Archie or "Heads or Tails" episode design. Or like if she has been re-dyed to look like the new design except for the inquisitive nature of camera flash (Looks like a mix of both schemes).
I remember her Brown-Red hair like the most accepted design.

On the South side, Robotnik looks like in AOSTH , like the scenario. Sadly the tides allways favored that show over SatAM...
Be extraordinary!

Weird. At first I thought you meant the puppets sold at the gift shops. I had no idea there was a puppet show! Kinds bizarre looking

No, that's great! I was just signing in to make a post about this and there it was on the front page ticker already. :)

Here's the Sonic Stadium article on it: http://www.sonicstadium.org/articles/20 ... ppet-show/

You didn't know?! That's where most of the Sally merchandise came from.

Have we ever gotten any Sally merchandise? Other than the comics and the vhs/dvd's I've never seen any.

The Sally plushie alone is practically the holy grail for some collectors.

I knew about those but I meant in america. When I would go to stores as a kid I saw tons of dolls and action figures with sonic, tails, knuckles and robotnik on them but never saw any sally stuff. Even sonic underground got a few toys released in the us.

LOL, OK, you scared me there for a minute!
I think the bath stickers and pogs are from the US, as are all the books. The Look and Find book even has the Freedom Stormer plane and a bunch of other SatAM references. Probably because it was done by Ken Penders and Art Mawhiney.
