    Dislike Button?

Postby David Lynch on July 19th, 2011, 11:09 pm

Can we have dislike button to click please? :D It could be like the like button except we click it when we want to say we think a post is not good for whatever reason.

Without putting this past anyone else, personally I wouldn't favour something like that. It places attention on the ability to express a negative view on what people are saying -- and the far more encouraged behaviour here is to place as much emphasis as we can on when people make exceptionally good points and contributions in discussions.

Then again, I know some other boards (particularly those running IPB 3.x, which comes with a reputation system out of the box) that do allow an equivalent to a dislike button, but their whole attitude and vibe is different to what we've got here on SMS.

People are too easily offended these day. A 'dislike' button may just push the poor little sods over the edge.

Personally, I think a 'slap around the ear' button would be an excellent idea!

People are also too easily offensive this days. It's a dangerous combination.

Anyway, I agree with Mr. Black on this one.

That don't hold much water, people fearing being attached by anyone is people easily offended.

I never had bad intention at all in this forum and usually I get into trouble, I apologize many times w/out knowing what happened or what I did wrong, I just apologize and apologize and get more and more burnt of that "socializing" thing. Til' I do a Viking burial of my DSL router... :twanscared: Then I'l be offended at all this forum, the circle is near to close...

So are you saying people should never be offended by anything? The offending party is never at fault? Somehow that doesn't seem quite right to me.

Now, if it wasn't intentional, don't worry about it. You don't really need to apologize--just be clear what you really meant and it's all good. :)

Edit: Re-reading this now I see you were probably directing your comment at John and not at me.

Was a general througt, about me allways getting chewed on English speaking forums, what startle me is the fact that it ONLY happens on American (mainly) English forums, not on UK, not on any random country speaking English... Not in Spanish... Not in French, Not in Japan... You get it. So in this case getting the sticky end all time don't looks like my fault.

My Gramp would go by the old Adaggio of "That's why god put them on the other side of the Atlantic" But I allways try to form my own opinion... Perphars is the duality "U.S. + me" ... Dunno...

EDIT: Even can be really my fault, dunno, I just wondering if I am offensive on my English tone, many words in real word mean not the same as on a dictionary, but if I apply a word based on the "official" meaning, but people is used to thake that word as offensive, and even the context somehow reinforces, that non intended meaning I'l be on deep sheet... Perphars after 400 apologies I get to partly cover that, but therm, unintended harm, would be there, I'l just have to check the text for not risque bits before smashing Enter.

It's probably just a difference in cultural norms. Neither side is really at fault. Neither norm is necessarily better than the other, as long as it works for the culture that subscribes to it (i.e. they can understand each other's meaning).

Ive noticed that. Seems to be a thing that Americans can NOT do self depreciation and see it as offensive. Us Brits on the other hand, well, we need to mock something and if its ourselves then so be it

Mach, that's quite it! Self pitty seems rampant quite worldwidely, either faked/moked or real, except on USA an maybe Vladivostok, Jokes and adaggios are quite current towards this topic, sottovoce or blattantly ironic.

    Thanks ^^;
