    What's about My Little Pony?

Postby DaddlerTheDalek on November 5th, 2011, 3:01 pm

Can anybody explain me whats so Great about My Little Pony? :rotorconfused:
I honestly never saw it & I don't know much about it.
for me it looks like some kind of Barbie with Ponys, like a TV-Show for Girls!
I don't get this strange SatAM/My Little Pony relationship. :rotorunsure:
...Ok, it seems to be funny, but I don't get the new hype about it...
Can you tell me why do you think it's Good? Maybe you can prove me that I am wrong!

Well, first off, the picture you posted is from the previous generation of the toys/series, so you can safely ignore that!

I can't speak for new fans (since I never outgrew the 80's version), but I can give my perspective. It's not (currently) "Barbie with Ponies"; it started out in the 80s as a fairly typical fantasy story for little kids: magical creatures, witches and sorcerers, that sort of thing, but with the main cast being mostly all female ponies. It got more and more overtly girly and had less and less substance to the stories as the series and toy lines went on. The current generation went back to the original idea of a fantasy-type story, and with likeable, relateable characters, believable situations, and well thought out stories and overall world. I think overall, it's a well-made cartoon, and I don't think there have been a lot of those recently. I also suspect a lot of people came into it with you're attitude that it's "for girls", implying that that means it's not good, and were surprised once they gave it a chance.

If there's any connection between being a fan of MLP and a fan of Sonic, I don't know what it is. There do seem to be a decent number of Sonic fans on the MLP Arena, especially interesting since they're mostly female collectors of the original toys, not new male fans, but I don't know. Maybe it's just because they're both good and both involve non-human characters.

The first pilot leaves you with a "not bad feeling", with the second episode, the MLP tune brings you a "what I am doing?" moment, but feeble (I dind't felt into ponies with just the first episode at all) but you end seeing a tight relation between the "good" things of both shows (SatAM an MLP:FIM) like everything it got it's weak moments, but the good ones are many. Both shows have a well knit group of friends, the same smart dialog style, tearjerker moments, and original plotpoints.

Then collecting figures come as natural (I got 4 of them)

The New TV-Show FIM (Friendship is Magic) is the reason.

I don't know about TV channels, but you can find it on YouTube.

Oh, and I think you'll appreciate the Q reference in first story of FiM's Season 2.

It's a nice well written show, but not something I'd go out of my way to fawn cultishly over as some of the fans do(no offense)

Adventure Time needs more love people!

I already drove my Niece Claudia in this series, I regret nothing. (She's out of show's demographic too) heck, even my dad knows their names, and suggested me to collect even the non show figures (I already collect the main characters on her brushable mane incarnation)

I customise My Little Ponies. I played with them as a kid, because I was never into Barbie or dolls with human faces and just perfered animal toys. I hated the 80's cartoon because it was so girly, but mostly I hated it because of the human characters. A lot of Sonic fans hate Chris from Sonic X becuase he was a bratty little twerp who stole the parts from Tails and Amy and it felt as if the cartoon was more about him than Sonic. I hated him because he was a person. If Maria had a bigger part in Sonic X, I probably would have hated her too. I don't know, I've just always hated human characters in series where the cast is mostly animal. In SatAM, the human characters are supposed to be hated. I never watched SatAM as a kid. I had never even heard of it until very recently. I perfered MLP Tales as a kid. It's kinda like FiM where it's a universe where all the people have been replaced by horses. In MLP Tales, the ponies could stand upright on ocassion and would often use their hooves as hands. I would have loved FiM as a kid. Mostly because there weren't any human characters and the could still pass as animals. Cartoons like Arthur they are basicaly humans. They even refer to themselves as human. The only animal things about them are their ears.

Seeing how I'm autistic, and autistic people have notorious poor social skills, I probably could have bennefitted from the lessons on friendship at the end. I like how they are able to protray them without being preachy. Aparently some people never learned from Sonic Sez, because I've come across at least six videos of people riding in clothes dryers on You Tube. Perhaps Sonic was just too preachy.

I watched it with a couple friends earlier this year. The generation of MLP with which I grew up is, in a word, forgettable, but I'm glad I too the time for Friendship is Magic. My one friend seemed apprehensive about my reaction, then seemed a little baffled when I liked it (I don't know why; our tastes are very similar, aside from Twilight being in her *brain-candy library). The other wasn't surprised, and when asked about the "brony" title, he responds, "Hey, do I really need need a label?" :P

*I like urbandictionary.com's definition: An experience that is enjoyable because it stimulates the mind pleasantly, but doesn't actually make it work. Usually in reference to light and fluffy books, movies, TV shows, and other entertainment. Akin to eye candy.
It’s okay. I’m with the band.
