Image Poem
The place she once lived.
Overrated.
The beauty of polluted skies.
Imitated.
The people she once knew.
Unaided.
The acceptance she sought there.
Uninitiated
Letter Poem
Does he know when he lies?
Is he right, I wonder,
or should I strike out alone?
He smells fear on me,
Like a shark in crimson water,
he smells the trembling in my breath.
However, loneliness is a far more fearsome foe.
There is hope that you will outwit the shark's
wide jaws. Punch his thick snout
and he swims away like a coward
in pain, weeping
but your mind is an inescapable sea.
The shark; self doubt, there is no difference
here, when you are alone inside
the sea of your mind
you only hit yourself.
Grief Poem
I was a self-made man until I lost the instructions.
Now I'm a self-mutilated ham losing all its functions.
All my tears and my blood are mixing with the mud.
As I lie in this crud, I think of people I've loved.
Their smiling faces, contrasted with the blood on my hands.
Is the objective to kill our brothers where the enemy stands?
Back in 'Nam, I asked myself that question. For are we but men?
Trapped within the bosom of the house, laughing now just like then?
My comrades always seethed and hated, while I only contemplated.
I just never related, I was never so jaded.
If we’re so righteous, then why are we so misunderstood?
If this war was meant help them then why didn’t it do any good?
I want to cut my throat and feel my crimson blood splash
Onto my lap like hot water from a faucet-like slash.
A river of blood carrying me away in a casket,
Into the arms of Christ, like Moses in the basket.
Sonnet
Stealthily, we leap through the polluted skies
Our shadows engulfed by buildings that loom
A place no one would hear our icy cries
This abandoned city could provide our tomb
How I missed the embrace of the city
These metal effigies may be cold to most
Yet they whisper warm memories to me
Recalling childhood, I offer an invisible toast
The soothing beauty is worth the risk
I will relive the memories of my youth here
So be it if I find my demise, so bitter and brisk
My love for this place overwhelms my fear
Perhaps a living creature in this lonely metal husk,
is all it needs to retire its perils to another time?
Three Haikus on a Theme
A diseased mind
You remain so accepted
And so infected
Fame undulated
No longer imitated
His disease faded
I'm not accepted.
Don’t worry, it’s not expected.
I won’t ask again.
Nonsense Poem
Every town has him.
He sifts the human soil for souls.
He was once a man, and still holds the desires of a man.
Sexual mutilation, and possibly even cannibalism.
His spinal cord was served, not severed.
To stop him you must believe.
You must believe in something.
Don't Stop.
March on.
Free Verse
Open the window, in the house of dolls.
I knew it was only a matter of time.
Say our journey is worth another try.
You never claimed to be anyone special.
Yet your soul was too big for one spirit.
You challenge our anger to become love.
And the love we knew, came out of the blue.
Like a child.
